Lewis Hamilton has asked his fans for “prayers” amid a worrying update from the seven-time Formula 1 champion on the health of his pet dog, Roscoe.
The English Bulldog, now 12, has been a part of Hamilton’s identity in more recent years, accompanying him to a number of races at the height of his powers.
It was revealed earlier this week that Roscoe was receiving veterinary treatment with a photo shared on social media.
Later, it was confirmed that Hamilton would miss a planned Pirelli tyre test a Mugello to spend time with Roscoe, with reserve driver Zhou Guanyu taking his place.
Today, Hamilton posted on his Instagram account with a further update, with heartbreaking information.
“Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts,” Hamilton wrote. “I want to keep you all updated.
“Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped.
“They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this.
“Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”
