Fernando Alonso has revealed a particular problem in working with Formula 1 design guru Adrian Newey, detailing how it has been working with him on the 2026 regulations reset.
Aston Martin has built a solid foundation for its ambitious goals for the sport’s latest era.
The Silverstone-based squad first nailed down the two-time World Champion for at least the first year of the new regulations, with Lawrence Stroll also successfully negotiating a works Honda deal.
The final piece of the puzzle was the chassis side of things. And with Newey’s arrival, the Canadian business mogul has brought in 26 F1 titles’ worth of experience into the team.
Alonso, who is still hungry for that elusive third world title, has now described how it has been working with the 66-year-old since his arrival at the team earlier this year.
“Yeah, he’s an incredible person, the best designer in the history of our sport, and everyone in the team is learning a lot from him,” he told the official Aston Martin website.
Newey is considered as one of the brightest minds in the paddock. His innovative approach to finding loopholes to exploit performance from any given technical rule-set has earned him this accolade.

Alonso went on to outline that the level Newey’s brain operates at gets too much sometimes to comprehend for “normal people”.
“Everything Adrian does, you try to understand why he is doing that, why he chose that direction, or why he’s answering in that way, because there is always something to learn from him,” quipped the 43-year-old.
“Even from a simple answer that he can give to you in response to a question, that simple answer can be so clear to him, but why is it not for others?
“There are moments when, to be able to understand him, you need to use all your brain capacity. Even if Adrian only uses five per cent, for us, for normal people, we need to use much more.”
