Jaguar TCS Racing has announced former NEOM McLaren boss Ian James as its new Team Principal ahead of Formula E Season 12.

The British marque has spent the off-season without a leader at the helm, with longstanding boss James Barclay departing to head up McLaren’s WEC programme.

James, who was rendered out of a job amid McLaren’s withdrawal from FE, has effectively conducted a swap with Barclay, also becoming Managing Director of JLR Motorsport, effective from October 1.

The Coventry-based squad will now have security in a new boss who can lead the team into the GEN4 era of the all-electric championship.

“I’m incredibly proud to be joining Jaguar – a brand with a unique history of technical innovation through racing and now with an exciting all-electric future ahead of it,” James said in a statement.

“To be able to lead the talented team at Jaguar TCS Racing to fight for success on-track while pioneering EV development through competition will be a privilege.”

Chris Thorp, Chairman of JLR Motorsport, said: “Our JLR Motorsport programmes play a vital role within the business – developing and innovating technology for the
future benefit of our customers and inspiring our global 40,000-strong workforce with a winning mindset.”

Jaguar has nearly all the pieces of its FE jigsaw reassembled, with Mitch Evans also retained for Season 12, but the team is yet to announce his new team-mate.

Nick Cassidy, fellow Kiwi and friend, left the team after Season 11, and will join Jean-Eric Vergne at the all-new Citroen Racing team from next season.

Antonio Felix da Costa, who officially left TAG Heuer Porsche last week, is hotly-rumoured to be the man to take the second seat.
