Christian Horner’s speculated future in Formula 1 has taken a fresh turn, with reports linking him to an undisclosed role with Haas.

Horner, 51, formally severed all ties with Red Bull this week with a whopping payout, one of the biggest in sport history.

It was revealed however that Horner, who was fired as Team Principal and CEO of the Milton Keynes-based squad in July, cut a deal which saw him take less money.

A compromise was subsequently reached, which would see Horner be allowed to return to F1 sooner, indicating he is ready to take on a new challenge.

Horner, who refuted longstanding rumours linking him with Ferrari, was rumoured with a possible role at Alpine, largely due to his friendship with its Executive Advisor, Flavio Briatore.

Now, a second F1 team has come into the mix, in the form of Haas.

The Daily Mail has reported that Horner could be interested in a role with the American squad, given a possible opportunity at great autonomy within the team.

“He would likely want equity in a team, rather than be prone to the whims of others,” the report says.

“To be his own master. Haas, the American team, are mooted by some decent sources as a possible destination.”

Like Alpine, the logic in Haas would be that Horner would not need to significantly relocate, given its base is housed in Banbury.

Also, the team has been noted for its ability to punch above its weight financially, compared to the budgets of much of its rivals.

This could give Horner the opportunity to sell the idea of being his own master to owner Gene Haas.

But with current Team Principal Ayao Komatsu overseeing operations, it would be hard to fathom where Horner would fit in at present.
