Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has claimed that retaining second in the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship is more important to the team than winning a race in 2025.
With eight rounds to go in the ongoing campaign, Ferrari remains the sole team among the leading quartet in the standings that hasn’t been victorious in a Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton tasted success on his second weekend with the side in China as he prevailed in the Sprint Race, a rare high point in an underwhelming Ferrari season.
But with Red Bull and, to a lesser degree, Mercedes having been reliant on one driver to score points, Ferrari still lies second overall, albeit 337 points behind McLaren.
Vasseur has asserted that protecting the 20-point lead that it harbours over Mercedes in third is more valuable to the Maranello-based squad than recording a victory.
However, the Frenchman, who hasn’t overseen a winless campaign since taking charge in 2023, is optimistic that the team will have opportunities to end that drought.
“I think we have a couple of tracks where we are supposed to be also in good shape, starting with the next one,” he told media including Motorsport Week.
“We were historically always in good shape in Baku.
“But for sure, the goal is also now to finish P2 in the championship; McLaren is on another planet.
“We are fighting with Red Bull and Merc. The target for the team is to finish P2. The first target is to finish P2 and then to win the race.”

Ferrari’s attention on upcoming rules overhaul
Vasseur has repeated that Ferrari will be dependent on the car that it has over the remaining races, as the team’s attention is now dedicated to the 2026 rule changes.
“I think it’s true for us and true for everybody on the grid,” he acknowledged.
“I think only one team brought an upgrade this weekend, except the wings, because we have to adapt the car to the level of downforce.
“But I think for everybody now we are focused on 2026.
