David Malukas has been released from the hospital after requiring medical attention following a crash on Sunday afternoon, AJ Foyt Racing has confirmed.
Malukas suffered a heavy crash on lap 83 of the Music City Grand Prix, spinning backwards into the Turn 2 wall.
He had been attempting to lap rookie Louis Foster on the outside, and the two touched at high speed.
Malukas’ #4 entry backed into the wall and came to a stop while still sitting on the banking.
He climbed from the car under his own power, but was seen to be moving very gingerly as he made his way to the awaiting medical vehicle.
A short time later, he was airlifted to a local hospital for further checks that were described as precautionary.
“David is doing well,” confirmed Dr. Julia Vaizer moments after he left the track.
“He’s awake, he’s alert. He is in really good spirits. We’re just sending him down to our trauma center for some precautionary evaluation and advanced imaging.”
It was confirmed to media that Malukas was released from the hospital just a couple hours after the conclusion of the event, but no further information about his injuries was provided.
“After further evaluation at Vanderbilt, we are happy to share that David’s tests came back clear. He has been released,” read the statement by AJ Foyt Racing.
Foster was given a penalty for blocking, but was able to finish the race with no damage from the incident.
“Want to make sure he’s okay,” offered Foster after the race. “I’ve heard that he is somewhat okay. That’s good to hear. I’ll text him after to make sure he’s okay.
“For me, we were trying to stay on the lead lap. I held my line. He turned down into me. I couldn’t do a lot about it. I think he tried to chop across in front of me expecting me to back out of it more than I did.
“He hit my front right. Luckily I didn’t get any damage. Luckily he’s somewhat okay. Yeah, unfortunate.”
Since this was the final race of the 2025 season, the young driver should have plenty of time to recover this offseason.
