Lewis Hamilton has clarified that he has not been issuing “orders” to Ferrari with the documents he has been sending to the team across the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Hamilton created headlines in the lead-up to last month’s Belgian Grand Prix when he disclosed he has been handing reports to Ferrari about potential improvements.
The Briton’s revelation came as he stated that he is determined to guarantee that his time with Ferrari doesn’t conclude without a championship like his predecessors.
Hamilton has endured a gruelling debut campaign with the Italian marque as he has struggled to adapt to a troubled SF-25 car that was constructed without his input.
That has provoked Hamilton to engage in several meetings with Ferrari’s senior leaders to ensure that the team’s 2026 challenger contains his desired characteristics.
But while that has included addressing the pointers that he has raised, Hamilton refuted any notion that he is attempting to call the shots behind the scenes at Ferrari.
“There were no orders in it,” Hamilton told media including Motorsport Week.
“It was just ideas like, ‘Hey, if we did this, have we tried this? If we did this, perhaps we can ease up certain areas or we can be better.’
“It’s just about having conversations. Fred [Vasseur, Ferrari Team Principal], as I said, as a team, has been really responsive.”

Leclerc and Hamilton have equal involvement at Ferrari
Charles Leclerc has reiterated that he and Hamilton hold an equal involvement in Ferrari’s design direction, despite their alternative approaches to providing feedback.
“I’m of course involved,” the Monegasque said. “I’m not creating documents on my side, but I’m definitely having meetings whenever I’m back in Maranello with the team to know what is the next thing we want to tackle as a team.
“Every single driver has their way of feeding back the team. I have my way, which is different compared to Lewis, but that doesn’t mean I’m left out. I’m definitely involved in the process.”
