Lewis Hamilton has pledged his commitment to Formula 1, despite a nightmare Hungarian Grand Prix weekend in which he proposed that Ferrari should replace him.
Hamilton endured a new low in a troubled maiden season with Ferrari at the Hungaroring as a Q2 exit preceded him coming home outside the points in a lapped 12th.
The Briton began the race on the more durable Hard compound, but his quest to salvage points was dealt an instant blow when he lost two places on the opening lap.
Having been caught up behind slower cars across his opening stint, Hamilton completed some moves once he changed to the Mediums at his sole pitstop on Lap 42.
Hamilton’s advances stalled once he recovered to his starting position, though, leaving him to go into a much-needed summer break without adding to his points tally.
The seven-time F1 champion’s worst result with Ferrari did little to boost his mood compared to 24 hours earlier, when he suggested the team “need to change driver”.
When asked post-race what triggered the comment, Hamilton divulged that there are some dealings behind the scenes at the Italian marque that he isn’t content with.
“Not particularly, when you have a feeling, you have a feeling,” he said via Sky Sports F1. “There’s a lot going on in the background that’s not great.”

Hamilton will return with Ferrari
However, Hamilton, who remains without a podium to his name in 2025, insisted that he will return to action once the season continues at Zandvoort later this month.
“I look forward to coming back, I’ll be back, yeah,” Hamilton, who is now 39 points behind team-mate Charles Leclerc, expressed to media including Motorsport Week.
“We’ve definitely made some improvements on the upgrades, and it is a shame that we’re not as competitive as the guys in front.
“But we’ve seen Charles have a really strong run in the last two races, and the car is definitely progressing, so we have to keep trying to extract more from it.”
