The 2025 FIA Formula 1 season is in full swing and just reached the halfway stage after the recent British Grand Prix.

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri is currently top of the drivers’ standings, but is the Australian still the odds-on favourite to win the championship on today’s safest Canadian F1 betting sites?

Let’s dive straight in to find out.

How has Piastri performed so far this season?

In his first outing on the official 2025 Formula 1 schedule on March 16 at the Australian GP on the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne, Piastri finished in eighth, securing just 2 points on the drivers’ standings leaderboard.

However, he went on to win the Chinese GP, picking up 25 points and quickly climbed back up the standings. He earned another 18 points for finishing second at the Japanese Grand Prix.

His incredible streak continued, and he went on to win the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix before making it a hattrick by winning the Miami Grand Prix. He could only manage third place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and finished in the same position in Monaco the following week before winning the Spanish Grand Prix.

His next outing was in Montreal at the Canadian Grand Prix, where he finished fourth, but he was the runner-up two weeks later at the Austrian Grand Prix and then again at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. The next event is on Sunday, July 27, at the Belgian Grand Prix on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track.

Currently, Piastri has 234 points and is top of the Formula 1 drivers’ standings, followed closely by second-placed teammate Lando Norris with 226 points.

Is Piastri the odds-on favourite to win the 2025 F1 championship outright?

The quickest, easiest, and most reliable way to find out if Oscar Piastri can win the 2025 F1 championship outright is to see what the latest odds are. For example, right now, he is the clear odds-on favourite to win, even though there are still 12 more Grand Prix races to come before the end of the season.

At the time of writing, sports bettors are currently looking at average odds of around 1.70 (decimal odds) for Piastri to win the Formula 1 title this season. In the American/moneyline odds format, 1.70 is the same as saying -143, which also means he has a 58.80% implied probability rate (IPR) of him actually achieving this.

In comparison, teammate Lando Norris, who is the current second odds-on favourite to win this year, is currently priced, on average, at around 2.30 (or +130 in American/moneyline odds), with a slightly lower 43.50% IPR.

In other words, it’s looking highly inevitable that Oscar Piastri will win the title this year.

Final thoughts

The important thing to remember about sports betting is that anything can happen to upset the odds, meaning betting on the favourite isn’t always guaranteed to return a profit.

When betting on Formula grands prix, pay attention to the latest odds and try to stay on top of the latest news and updates to help you place more strategic bets.
