McLaren’s Lando Norris topped the timing sheets in the opening free practice session of the 2025 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.

The British driver set a lap time of 1:13.718s on the Soft tyres, around three-and-a-half tenths quicker than the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton ended the session in third with his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc in fourth.

Oscar Piastri was in fifth in the other McLaren ahead of Liam Lawson.

The Haas of Oliver Bearman split the Racing Bulls in seventh, with fellow rookie Isack Hadjar in eighth.

Yuki Tsunoda finished FP1 in ninth place for Red Bull and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly completed the top 10 for the session
