Four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet have welcomed the birth of their daughter, Lily.
Verstappen was absent from Thursday’s media activities at the Miami Grand Prix, as Red Bull confirmed he remained in Europe, expecting the birth of his first child.
A written statement by the team read “Hi all, please note that Max will not be attending media day in Miami as he is expecting a baby.
“All is well and he will attend track tomorrow for the race weekend.
“We will not be offering any further comment at this time in respect towards the privacy of Max and his family.”
Verstappen has since made the trip to Miami and confirmed on Instagram the birth of his and Piquet’s first child together.
“Welcome to the world, sweet Lily,” the couple wrote.
“Our hearts are fuller than ever – you are our greatest gift. We love you so much.”
Speaking ahead of Verstappen and Piquet’s momentous occasion, Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton said in the official Miami GP press conference, “I just wish him all the best. It’s such an amazing, special thing. I spoke to him briefly in Saudi and saw how excited he was. Big congrats to him.”
