Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has revealed the team intends to introduce the next upgrade package to its 2025 Formula 1 car at next month’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Italian marque’s disenchanting beginning to the campaign was eased in Saudi Arabia as a magnificent Charles Leclerc drive produced a morale-boosting podium.
However, Ferrari remains under no illusion that the SF-25 under its current guise is not competitive enough to challenge McLaren and its pacesetting MCL39 machine.
Leclerc pinpointed that Ferrari’s relative struggle to extract speed over a single lap compared to the opposition has undermined the team’s improved pace in race trim.
Vasseur concurred with the Monegasque’s assessment as he recognised that getting a handle on Ferrari’s qualifying woes will be essential to acquiring better results.
“If we are not further ahead it is because of qualifying, that is clear,” Vasseur said. “The pace has always been very good in the race.
“We need to be more consistent over the whole weekend, in all sessions, and do a better job.
“Clearly we have weaknesses, I think especially in qualifying.”
But Vasseur implied that Ferrari has located where the SF-25’s limitations reside as it works on changes which will complement the revised floor it brought to Bahrain.
“We have to be honest with ourselves and analyse the situation,” the Frenchman continued.
“When you understand where the problems are, you can work to solve them and we think we have understood where to intervene.
“We keep the same approach as last year and think race by race.”
When will Ferrari bring next 2025 upgrades?
Vasseur disclosed that Ferrari wouldn’t accelerate updates to the next race in Miami as the inclusion of the Sprint format limits the teams to a single practice session.
Instead, the Frenchman highlighted that the Maranello-based squad’s latest developments should coincide with the European leg beginning on home ground at Imola.
“Miami, there is the Sprint race and little time to work; we will probably bring updates to Imola,” he addressed.
Vasseur insists ‘results will come’ at Ferrari
Vasseur is optimistic that Ferrari will soon begin to deliver on the untapped potential that he has continued to insist that Ferrari’s revamped 2025 challenger harbours.
“We are still paying for the points lost in China compared to the others,” he conceded, alluding to the double disqualification Ferrari endured.
“We have to look to the future, we push together and the results will come.”
