NEOM McLaren has announced that its new reserve driver Alex Dunne will be tasked with the team’s Formula E rookie duty at next week’s Jeddah E-Prix weekend.

The Irishman, who took two podiums in his debut Formula 3 season last year, will partake in the FP0 session set for Thursday Feburary 13th, one day before the first race of the double-header weekend.

The 2022 British F4 Champion and 2023 GB3 runner-up was recently confirmed as the team’s reservist, taking the place of Taylor Barnard, who is now occupying a race seat alongside Sam Bird.

In a statement released by McLaren, Dunne said: “I’m looking forward to getting my first chance to drive the GEN3 Evo for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team next week in Jeddah.

“To have this opportunity through the McLaren Driver Development programme feels incredible, and I’m so grateful to the team for putting their trust in me.

“I’ve been working hard in the simulator and with the team to prepare for this test, and I can’t wait to get out to Jeddah.”

Team Principal Ian James added:  “I’m very pleased that Alex will have the chance to test with the team at next week’s Rookie Free Practice Session.

“As our Reserve and Development Driver, Alex has already been playing a key role within the team and has been supporting us through his work in the simulator.

“Throughout his junior career, Alex has shown great promise, and I know he’ll make the most of this opportunity.”

Dunne joins Kush Maini [for Mahindra Racing], Zak O’Sullivan [Envision Envision] and Mikkel Jansen [Cupra Kiro] as drivers now confirmed for the test, with the remaining seven teams left to name their starlets for the special outing.
