Jurgen Klopp would love to meet Red Bull peer Max Verstappen

The newly appointed Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, Jurgen Klopp, recently expressed his desire to meet Max Verstappen to learn the secrets of Formula 1.

In 2024, Klopp was hired by Red Bull to work with the football clubs owned or sponsored by the energy drinks company.

The ex-Premiership, German born, manager is highly regarded in the sport, having won both the Champions League and the Premier League whilst managing the legendary Liverpool.

But since Klopp joined the management team at Red Bull, he has taken an interest in the four-time F1 World Champion Verstappen.

The Dutchman once told Marca that he is in “full control” of what he is doing on the track whilst racing after the 2021 season where he defeated Lewis Hamilton to his first World Championship.

It was these comments that have intrigued Klopp, leading the 57-year-old to state that he’d love to sit down and chat with Verstappen at some point.

“There are so many things to talk about!” Klopp told the official Red Bull website.

“Not just how focused he is, but all kinds of things.

“It’s really crazy.

“I would love to spend time with him to understand how he can do that under the threat of 200 miles an hour in a car and still be at his absolute best mindset.

“Super interesting.”

Verstappen praises Red Bull for appointing vastly ‘experienced’ Klopp

At just the age of 27, Verstappen has already won 63 races, with only Michael Schumacher and Hamilton having more victories in F1.

Last year, in Las Vegas, he became the sixth driver in history to win four or more titles – following in the footsteps of former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel by winning four titles in a row after claiming his first.

But it was the focus of Verstappen that impressed Klopp whilst speaking in a press conference for his new Red Bull role.

He added: “How can Max Verstappen be fully focused at that speed?

“I’d love to know – give me that info and I’ll try to take it into football.”

Verstappen was asked about the German’s involvement at Red Bull when it was first announced last year, as he applauded the appointment of Klopp.

“I knew already for quite a long time that they were talking and it was close to being signed,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think it’s great. Red Bull is investing a lot also in football with the teams they have and there is a lot of talent that has come through already.

“With someone like Jurgen in charge from the top, he has a lot of experience, and he has managed a lot of great clubs.

“It’s great for the whole organisation.”
