Ferrari announced on Tuesday that it has agreed on a multi-year agreement to supply the prospective Cadillac 2026 Formula 1 entry with power units and gearboxes.

In the days following the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, General Motors agreed an agreement in principle with F1 to launch a revised Andretti team under the Cadillac name in 2026.

There’s promise of a works GM power unit in 2028, necessitating the need for a customer supply for the first two years of entry.

Ferrari has ended speculation it will be the supplier with the following statement: “Ferrari N.V. (NYSE/EXM: RACE) (“Ferrari” or the “Company”) today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved.”

Curiously, Ferrari’s statement includes the Andretti name, given that Michael Andretti stepped aside from control of his eponymous enterprise in September to help the F1 bid gather momentum.

In his place, Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsport business took over majority ownership of Andretti and deepened the prospective F1 bid’s ties with General Motors.

This accelerated plans with F1 to have the entry approved under the Cadillac name.

“It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States,” said Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur.

“We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration.

“It means we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.”

Graeme Lowdon, Team Principal of Cadillac Formula 1 Team led by TWG Global and General Motors added: “We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies.

“Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people.”

Cadillac F1 team gathering momentum

Since Andretti’s initial rejection at the start of the year, work has continued at pace, with design work ongoing with a 2026 prototype.

Moreover, a facility was opened at Silverstone, with hundreds of personnel hired to work on the project.

Several key figures from the world of F1 and motorsport have been brought into the Cadillac F1 project.

Former F1 Chief Technical Officer Pat Symonds is set to join the project as Executive Engineering Consultant and he will be working with a team of former Esntone/Renault staff including GM’s Technical Director Nick Chester and Chief Operating Officer Rob White.
