Earlier in the week, Logan Sargeant joined a few other drivers in southern California for a test day driving an IndyCar around the Thermal Club course.

Meyer Shank Racing gave the 23-year-old American driver his first taste piloting IndyCar machinery after his nearly two-year stint in Formula 1 came to an early end in August.

Sargeant held his own among other drivers at the test and was third fastest among the six drivers present at the event.

MSR co-owner Mike Shank stated the he believes Sargeant deserves a chance to race in one of America’s top series, and decided to give him a chance to show his skills despite the team’s IndyCar and IMSA 2025 rosters having already been filled.

“The goal was to have a look at him,” said Shank. “We’ve always felt that he deserves a shot at something over here, whether it’s in IndyCar or GTP or whatever the future may hold.

“We went ahead and had a good, strong look at him. He’s one of those top F2 guys and he got his shot at F1 and now he has a shot at IndyCar and we really wanted to see what he was all about.”

Sargeant enjoyed his test day, and described the MSR Honda chassis as one of the more unique cars he’s driven in his career.

His plans for next season have not yet been determined, but he now has a bit of IndyCar experience to go along with his racing resume which includes a complete set of the European formula ladder.

“I thought the Indy car was fun for sure, it’s very different from any other car that I have driven before,” said Sargeant.

“I felt like we were chipping away at it throughout the day and were trying some different set up stuff – some good, some bad. I’d say the most surprising thing was how the tires were pretty ‘peaky.’ They were pretty difficult to nail on a lap, I had thought that they would have a bit of a longer peak.

“Working with MSR has been amazing. Everyone on the team is great to work with, everyone is super nice. It’s a great atmosphere here and I had a nice time working with them.”
