McLaren’s Lando Norris stormed to a vital pole position at Formula 1’s Singapore Grand Prix with a two-tenth margin over title rival Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
Verstappen pipped the two Mercedes cars – Lewis Hamilton heading George Russell – to second place. Oscar Piastri was fifth in the second McLaren, 0.428s down.
Nico Hulkenberg put his Haas as high as sixth and will line up alongside Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, with RB’s Yuki Tsunoda the last driver to set a time in Q3.
Ferrari endured a nightmare session as Carlos Sainz crashed and Charles Leclerc had his lap time deleted, leaving the Italian outfit to cover the fifth row of the grid.
