Ferrari announces Serra as new F1 Chassis Technical Director

Ferrari has announced its revamped F1 technical structure.

Ferrari has announced that Loic Serra has been appointed the team’s new Formula 1 Chassis Technical Director once he completes his switch across from Mercedes.

Prior to the summer break, Ferrari announced the anticipated news that Enrico Cardile was vacating his Technical Director position to pursue a move to Aston Martin.

Vasseur has taken on the responsibilities that come with the role since Cardile’s departure, but he revealed that news on a restructure would come past the shutdown.

Ferrari has now disclosed that Cardile’s previous position in the technical department has been entrusted to Serra, who will commence work at Maranello next month.

The Italian marque divulged earlier this season that it had prised the Frenchman’s services from its F1 rivals to become its Head of Chassis Performance Engineering.

But in his revised role, Serra, who served as Mercedes’ Head of Vehicle Performance, will report to Vasseur and be tasked with overseeing multiple technical divisions.

“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that it has entrusted the role of Technical Director Chassis to Loic Serra,” Ferrari’s statement read.

“As previously announced, the French engineer, born in 1972, will join the team on 1 October. Loic in this new role will report directly to the Team Principal, Fred Vasseur.

“Serra will therefore be responsible for the following departments: Chassis Project Engineering, headed up by Fabio Montecchi; Vehicle Performance, headed up by Marco Adurno; Aerodynamics, headed up by Diego Tondi; Track Engineering, headed up by Matteo Togninalli and Chassis Operations, headed up by to Diego Ioverno, who also continues in the role of Sporting Director.

“The role of Technical Director Power Unit continues to be assigned to Enrico Gualtieri reporting directly to Fred Vasseur.”

Ferrari’s altered technical structure has been publicised with the team having sustained an encouraging return to form at Monza as Charles Leclerc won on home soil.

The Maranello-based squad remains in third position in the Constructors’ Championship with eight rounds remaining, but its gap to Red Bull is now down to 39 points.
