The inspiration behind Formula 1’s 2024 Dutch GP trophies

Drawing inspiration from the classic 1939 trophy model, this season’s Dutch GP design continued this legacy and was crafted by Studio Piet Boon, a local design company who previously designed the 2021 and 2023 trophies.

The trophy’s shape preserves its historical significance, drawing on the early Dutch motorsport era.

In addition to this, the design team also designed the Dutch coat of arms symbol, the ‘Lion,’ further linking the trophy’s connection to Dutch heritage and tradition.

However, a modern twist was added by internationally renowned British popstar and musician, Robbie Williams. Being an avid Formula 1 fan, he brought a personal touch to the drivers’ trophies. Inspired by his recent Moco Museum exhibition in Amsterdam, Williams’ design delves into themes of mental health and the pressures of stardom—echoing the mental challenges faced by Formula 1 drivers.

“The link between my work on mental health and the challenges faced by F1 drivers inspired me deeply. I wanted to create a trophy that reflects not just victory, but the resilience and strength behind it.”

Robbie Williams brought a personal touch to the drivers’ trophies at Zandvoort.

The Constructors’ trophy had a different theme from Marcel van Luit, known for his surrealistic art. His design merges the natural beauty of Zandvoort, home to the Dutch GP with the dynamic speed of Formula 1, featuring a modern twist on the traditional Delft Blue art form.

“Collaborating with Royal Delft to create a trophy that bridges Dutch heritage and modern art was an honour. This piece represents the essence of speed, nature, and artistic expression.”

Royal Delft is world-renowned for its iconic Delft Blue pottery and centuries of artisanal expertise and distinctive design. Their craftsmanship has ensured that the intricate designs by both Williams and Van Luit are brought to life with detail, elegance and a sense of humour.

All in all, these trophies encapsulate the Dutch GP theme #LikeNoOther
