McLaren driver Lando Norris led a 1-2 for the team during the final practice session for Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Norris moved to the front with a time of 1:16.098s, finishing on top despite a slight slide through the final corner, in a session held in cooler and cloudier conditions compared to Friday, with track temperature around 20c lower.

Norris’ time left him a mere 0.044s ahead of McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri, as the MCL38s finished at the top of the pile.

Red Bull Racing continued with its split car philosophy, with Max Verstappen running the slimmer engine cover and updated front wing, while Sergio Perez’s car was equipped with some updates but still the high shouldered engine cover.

Verstappen finished the session in third position, 0.281s behind pacesetter Norris, though Perez was mired down in 13th place.

Verstappen went for another hot lap during the closing stages of the session but locked up heavily into Turn 1 and had to abandon his effort.

Ocon was slowest in FP3 at the Hungaroring.

George Russell was fourth for Mercedes but team-mate Lewis Hamilton had a scrappier session, finishing down in only 10th spot, which included a spin through the exit of Turn 9.

Carlos Sainz was the lead Ferrari driver in fifth position but faced a deficit of over half a second to Norris, while Charles Leclerc classified in 11th place, a couple of tenths of a second behind his team-mate.

Daniel Ricciardo finished sixth for RB, ahead of Williams’ Alex Albon, with Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg eighth, as the trio of teams displayed encouraging pace during the 60-minute session.

RB’s Yuki Tsunoda was ninth, ahead of the aforementioned Hamilton and Leclerc.
