All 27 IndyCar drivers took to the streets of Detroit Saturday afternoon, playing part in a knockout qualifying session on the temporary course.

Colton Herta took the 12th pole of his career, holding strong on the bumpy and difficult course to set a lap of 1:00.5475.

Alex Palou was second fastest of the afternoon, and will look to use his advantageous position to defend his race win from a year ago.

Theo Pourchaire had the best qualifying result of his young IndyCar career and will start seventh, although his Arrow McLaren team-mates did not do as well and will have their work cut out on Sunday.

A short warmup practice session is scheduled for Sunday morning, followed by a 100-lap race around the tricky streets at 12:30 eastern time.
