The Ferrari Formula 1 team has confirmed that Loic Serra and Jerome d’Ambrosio will both complete their rumoured respective switches from Mercedes in October.

Serra served as Head of Vehicle Performance at Mercedes, but he will now move to Ferrari to become the Italian marque’s Head of Chassis Performance Engineering.

The Frenchman, who also had a spell with BMW, will be responsible for overseeing Track Engineering, Aero Development, Aero Operations and Vehicle Performance.

Ferrari’s Technical Director Chassis, Enrico Cardile, will continue to lead the Maranello-based squad’s technical department, with Serra to report to the Italian engineer.

(L to R): Jerome d’Ambrosio (BEL) Mercedes AMG F1 Driver Development Director with Frederic Vasseur (FRA) Ferrari Team Principal. 28.04.2023. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 4, Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Baku Street Circuit, Azerbaijan, Qualifying Day.

Meanwhile, d’Ambrosio will also vacate Mercedes, slotting in alongside Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur to take up a newfound role as Deputy Team Principal.

The Belgian, who competed in F1 for the Marussia squad in 2011 prior to a stand-in appearance with Lotus in 2012, had been Mercedes’ Driver Development Director.

But it had been touted that d’Ambrosio was considering a proposal from Ferrari, and it has been revealed he will also head the Scuderia’s Driver Academy programme.

D’Ambrosio and Serra will begin work at Ferrari on October 1, marking the latest recruits Vasseur has made from rival competitors since his appointment in late 2022.

The pair will be in place as Lewis Hamilton completes his blockbuster move from Mercedes in 2025, with it having been reported that Serra was a factor in his choice.

According to reports, though, Mercedes has also been active in the market over recent months and acquired members from Ferrari in Simone Resta and Enrico Sampo.
