The 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship is now into full swing with the seventh race of the season coming up next weekend at Imola. But you must mark your calendars for the highly anticipated 2024 United States Grand Prix, taking place on Sunday the 20th of October at the iconic Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin.

Now, while the main Formula 1 event will take place that Sunday over 56 laps of the 5.513-kilometer circuit, the excitement of the competition kicks off a bit earlier with a Practice 1 on Friday, the 18th of October.

Unlike some other grands prix, the United States Grand Prix will feature just the one practice session according to the schedule. And that practice will take place from 12h30 to 13h30 local time (18h30 to 19h30 UK time).

Later that day – from 16h30 to 17h14 local time (22h30 to 23h14 UK time) – will be the Sprint Qualifying. The sprint qualifying is basically replacing free practice 2, and sets the grid for Saturday’s Sprint Race.

The next day – from 13h00 to 14h00 local time (19h00 to 20h00 UK time) – the Sprint Race will be held, replacing free practice 3. Then a lot later, when most people in the UK are in bed, the Formula 1 drivers will be trying to make good lap time during the qualifying race.

COTA is rich with both US and texas heritage…

The results of the qualifying, which will take place between 17h00 and 18h00 local time (23h00 to 00h00 UK time), will set the order for Sunday’s United States Grand Prix.

Understandably, the race is the crown jewel of the entire weekend. And while the Sprint Race and then qualifying could give you a general idea of which drivers might breast the tape first, surprises can never be discounted when it comes to the grand prix.

So, buckle up for 56 laps of pure adrenaline as the world’s best drivers battle wheel-to-wheel for victory.

That said, while the Grand Prix is the main course, the weekend offers a variety of other activities for fans.

For one, there will be a number of support races where some up and coming drivers get to showcase their skills in feeder series races like Formula 2 and Formula 3 throughout the weekend.

Of course, there’s also the fact that you stand the chance of meeting your favorite drivers and getting autographs during scheduled appearances throughout the race weekend.

All in all, if you have ever been to a grand prix, then you already know that it is always a blast. But if you have never been, here are some tips for you:

First off, you should know that grand prix are typically well attended. So, plan your travel and parking accordingly and well ahead of time so you don’t go and get stranded. And you could maybe even consider public transportation options or ridesharing services to avoid traffic congestion.

You might also want to consider downloading the official Formula 1 app so that you don’t miss any updates on race schedules, results, drivers’ standings throughout the event, or any other important piece of information you might need during the weekend.

Basically, the 2024 United States Grand Prix promises to be an unforgettable weekend for Formula 1 fans. So, mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and get ready for a weekend of heart-stopping racing action!
