Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team owner and broadcaster predicts design supremo Adrian Newey will take time away from the sport following his Red Bull exit.
Red Bull confirmed Newey’s impeding departure on Wednesday, with the Brit attending “specific” races this season before parting ways with the Milton Keynes-based set-up during the first quarter of 2025.
Meanwhile, Newey will work on completing the RB17 Hypercar project, slated to be unveiled at Goodwood in July.
With rival teams such as Aston Martin and Ferrari clamouring for Newey’s signature, Jordan, who serves as Newey’s manager, doesn’t see the famed engineer jumping straight to another outfit once his Red Bull departure is finalised.
“Remember that he’s been in Red Bull under constant pressure,” Jordan said on the Formula For Success podcast.
“So if he’s going to take time out and just cruise for a while, then everyone would understand that and I think that’s probably more likely to [happen] rather than diving into any other possible employment career [options].
“Things have slightly changed, he’s got a bit older.
“This is a great team, he’s had great drivers, he’s got great personnel there – he probably should and would look to the future for a change of life.”
Taking time out of the sport would come as a major blow for Red Bull’s rivals who want to steal Newey’s creative thinking away from the reigning Constructors’ champion.
Aston Martin reportedly made a big-money offer to Newey back in March and the 65-year-old reportedly met Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur in London this week.
Italian publication Formu1a.uno reports that the Scuderia is in pole position to land Newey with the offer of a “super consultant” role.
Following the announcement of his forthcoming departure, Newey outlined the reasons why he has chosen to part ways with a team he helped build upon his appointment in 2006.
“For almost two decades it has been my great honour to have played a key role in Red Bull Racing’s progress from upstart newcomer to multiple title-winning Team,” Newey said.
“However, I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself.
Newey played an instrumental role in guiding Red Bull to its seven Drivers’ and six Constructors’ titles, with another double title win likely come the end of this season.
However, the time has come for Newey to ponder where he goes next in F1, or if he will continue in the sport at all.
