Aston Martin F1 expect Newey is heading to Ferrari – report

Aston Martin Formula 1 “insiders” hold the opinion that prominent Red Bull designer Adrian Newey could be set to complete a move to Ferrari, according to a report.

Rumours have emerged that Newey is contemplating vacating his long-standing position at Red Bull, whom he has been associated with since its inception in 2005.

It’s been reported that his desire to leave emanates from being “unsettled” with the contentiousness surrounding allegations against Team Principal Christian Horner.

Red Bull responded to the increasing reports from various sources with a statement that read that it was “unaware” that Newey could be courting a move elsewhere.

Auto Motor und Sport posted that Newey’s probable destination is Ferrari and Sky F1’s Craig Slater has revealed some Aston Martin colleagues hold the same opinion.

“There’s been speculation that Ferrari have tried to sign him, and also that Aston Martin were hoping to perhaps entice him to work there,” Slater told Sky Sports News.

“That would certainly be an easier move in logistical terms for Newey because they are based at Silverstone.

“Ferrari have been trying for over 20 years to sign Adrian Newey and have been unsuccessful in that.

“But some insiders within Aston Martin have been explaining to me that they think if he goes somewhere else, it would be Ferrari potentially. So let’s see.”

Last month, reports stated that Aston Martin had presented Newey with a lucrative proposal to bolster the Silverstone-based squad’s ever-expanding technical ranks.

Newey, 65, has been linked with moves throughout his time with Red Bull, with the Briton having divulged he turned down multiple approaches from Ferrari in the past.

But Newey has expressed that not working for the Italian marque has been one “emotional regret”, alongside not having the chance to design a car for Lewis Hamilton.

However, a transfer to Maranello late in the twilight of his career would see Newey fulfil both of those ambitions as Hamilton has agreed a deal with Ferrari from 2025.
