Max Verstappen topped the times for Red Bull on the opening morning of pre-season testing in Bahrain ahead of the 2024 Formula 1 season.

The reigning World Champion fronted the times with a 1:32.548s in his RB20 to be 0.699s clear of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc after the opening four hours of running.

Fernando Alonso completed the top three for Aston Martin, ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, the RB of Yuki Tsunoda and George Russell in the Mercedes W15.

Valtteri Bottas wound up seventh for Sauber ahead of Alex Albon, who came to a halt in his Williams with an unspecified problem with 20 minutes remaining.

Esteban Ocon for Alpine and Kevin Magnussen completed the times, with several teams set to swap drivers for the afternoon across the hour lunch break.
