The FIA has announced that Jan Monchaux has been appointed to the role of Technical Director for the governing body’s single-seater department.

Monchaux will oversee technical matters concerning Formula 1 which includes focussing on future technical regulations.

Shaping the much talked about 2026 F1 regulations will be a key duty for Monchaux, who will report to FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis.

Monchaux has a long career within the world of motorsport, with his career commencing in 2002 as he led Toyota’s aero department until its F1 withdrawal in 2009.

From Toyota, he joined Ferrari, working in the Scuderia’s aero department until 2012, whereupon he took up a position with Audi in 2013.

He returned to F1 in 2018 with Sauber, rising to the role of Technical Director a year later, but left the squad last term and was succeeded by James Key.

“I am excited to welcome Jan to the FIA to fulfil an important role in the technical department, and in framing the future regulations of the sport,” said Tombazis.

“Jan’s arrival will strengthen our extensive technical expertise.”

“I am very happy to be joining the FIA as Technical Director and look forward to the fresh challenges this role entails,” added Monchaux.

“I have worked on the Competitors’ side for many years, but now the opportunity to help shape the future of the Sport with the governing body is a prospect I relish.”
