Hulkenberg: Ferrari ties no excuse for poor Haas F1 development

Haas has confirmed the unveiling of its 2024 Formula 1 challenger, the VF-24, will take place on February 2.

The American-based outfit’s launch is just a week away from the time of writing and completes the launch schedule for all 10 F1 teams.

Haas will be the first to lift the covers on its new car, although years gone by suggest it will likely be a render livery reveal rather than a physical unveiling of its true 2024 machine.

Following Haas’ February 2 launch will be Stake F1 Team (Sauber) and Williams on February 5, with Alpine next to launch on February 7.

The recently renamed Visa Cash APP RB squad will commence a Las Vegas-based launch on February 8 and there is then a four-day break until Aston Martin kicks off its 2024 season with a launch at its Silverstone facility on February 12, followed by Ferrari on February 13.

Mercedes (February 14), McLaren (February 14) and Red Bull (February 15) round out the season launch order.

Haas has undergone a major change in the F1 offseason, with long-standing Team Principal Guenther Steiner departing in favour of internal hire Ayao Komatsu.

Much has been made of owner Gene Haas’ decision to part with Steiner, but after finishing last in the Constructors’ standings in 2023, the American felt there was a change needed, labelling the team’s performance “embarrassing” and declaring he has “no interest in being 10th anymore.”

Plagued by race performance and tyre management issues, Haas slipped to the bottom of the F1 pecking order in 2023 and a design-concept change introduced in Austin, Texas did little to alleviate the team’s current slump.

Komatsu retains the same driver line-up that paired up for the first time in 2023, Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg – the pair combined for 12 points last year.
