Alpine and Mercedes reveal launch dates for 2024 F1 cars

Mercedes sticks with ‘W13 DNA’ for W14 design

Alpine and Mercedes have become the latest teams to officially reveal the launch dates for their respective 2024 Formula 1 cars.

Despite rising one place to second in the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes will be aiming to rebound from enduring its first winless season in F1 since 2011.

The German marque was hampered by retaining faith in the ‘zeropod’ solution at the start of last season, resulting in a compromised mid-season concept change.

However, Mercedes has been open that it is pursuing a revised philosophy with the W14’s successor as it bids to mount a challenge to the dominant Red Bull side.

To retain the theme of its previous car launches, the car, named the Mercedes-AMG F1 W15 E Performance, will be unveiled on Wednesday, 14 February at Silverstone.

The team’s drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, will be in attendance, with the broadcast available to watch on Mercedes’ respective social media channels.

Meanwhile, Alpine will unveil its 2024 challenger one week before Mercedes on the 7 February, with a season launch event incorporating its World Endurance Championship Programme

The Anglo-French outfit launched last season’s car in London, when it also announced that French football legend Zinedine Zidane had become an official ambassador.

The A524 will be the fifth car produced by the Enstone-based squad since the Renault Group elected to rebrand the team to promote the title of its sister sports car brand.

Alpine slipped two places to sixth under the second year of the current ground effect aerodynamic regulations, 160 points behind a resurgent Aston Martin one place above.

That plight prompted a management reshuffle that witnessed both Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer and long-serving Sporting Director Alan Permane exit the side last July.

Bruno Famin has since taken on the role in a temporary capacity that appears to have become permanent, with Alpine not confirming a long-term successor to Szafnauer.

Alpine will retain an element of continuity from the beginning of the previous season as Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly will return to form an all-French driver line-up.
