Recently-crowned triple Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen took victory in the Qatar Grand Prix, under the lights at the Lusail International Circuit.

Verstappen finished just under five seconds ahead of Oscar Piastri, who led a second successive McLaren double-podium in front of teammate Lando Norris.

After a first-lap collision with teammate Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes’ George Russell recovered to fourth place on a four-pit-stop strategy.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the top five, with Fernando Alonso coming home in sixth place despite an off-road excursion mid-race.
