Formula 1 reveals record-breaking 24-race 2024 calendar
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Formula 1 has presented its calendar for the 2024 season, with a record 24 events scheduled, including a planned return to China for the first time since the pandemic.

The season will again begin in Bahrain, in early March, before concluding in Abu Dhabi in December.

The first two races, in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, will take place on a Saturday night (March 2 and March 9 respectively), in order to be completed prior to the start of Ramadan on March 10.

China has not featured on the schedule since 2019, with its past four editions cancelled due to the pandemic and related travel restrictions, but it has been included as the fifth round on April 21.

The biggest date changes involve Japan, Azerbaijan and Qatar.

Japan will move away from post-summer break for the first time and has been installed as the fourth round, on April 7, as a standalone event.

Azerbaijan will move to mid-September in order form the first of a back-to-back round with Singapore.

Qatar will shift from its 2023 date of early October to the very start of December, forming the middle of a triple header along with Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

That means the season finale will shift back into December but creates a four-week gap in the schedule between Singapore (September 22) and Austin (October 20).

The triple header to complete the season will be one of two such instances, with Spain moving to June 23 to form the first of a run that includes Austria (June 30) and Britain (July 7).

Imola will return to the calendar, keeping its May date, after its 2023 event was cancelled during the build-up due to devastating flooding in Emilia-Romagna.

Belgium has been provisionally retained, keeping its 2023 slot as the last pre-summer event, subject to a one-year extension being ratified between Formula 1 and the promoter at Spa-Francorchamps.

As per 2023 there will be a single three-day pre-season test in Bahrain a week prior to the opening round of the campaign.
