Braun tops rain-affected opening practice for IMSA’s Watkins Glen 6 Hours

Colin Braun topped the timesheets in opening practice for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship’s Six Hours of Glen, as the Meyer Shank Acura driver set a 1:33.563.

This was over 1.2 seconds faster than his nearest rivals, the two Penske-run Porsche machines of Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr, with Tandy in the #7 Porsche 963 second and his teammate third in the sister #6 car.

The session was rain-affected, with the fastest times all being set in the opening 40 minutes before steady but persistent rainfall meant the rest of ther hour and a half session saw significantly slower times being set.

Fourth and fifth were two Cadillac machines, Renger van der Zande in the #01 Cadillac V-Series.R and Alexander Sims in the #31 Action Express Cadillac. They were followed by the two BMW M Hybrid V8s of Augusto Farfus and Connor de Phillippi.

In LMP2, Mikkel Jensen was quickest in the #11 TDS Oreca 07-Gibson, setting a 1:36.066. Ryan Dalziel was second in the #18 Era Oreca 07-Gibson, over six tenths off Jensen, while Ed Jones was third in the #20 High Class Oreca 07-Gibson.

Garrett Grist took the top spot in LMP3, with a time of 1:41.139 in the #30 Jr III Ligier JS P320-Nissan. Felipe Fraga was just over a tenth shy of this in the #74 Riley Ligier JS P320-Nissan, while Rasmus Lindh was third in the #85 JDC Miller Duqueine D08-Nissan.

Bryan Sellers topped GTD and was fastest amongst everyone in both GTD and GTD Pro, in the #1 Paul Miller BMW M4 GT3, with a time of 1:46.457. Jaxon Evans was second quickest, in the #91 Kellymoss Porsche 911 GT3R. 

Fastest in GTD Pro was Daniel Serra, behind the wheel of the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3. Behind him, third in GTD was Andy Lally in the #44 Magnus Aston Martin Vantage GT3, while second in GTD Pro went to Bill Auberlen in the #95 Turner BMW M4 GT3, with Ross Gunn third in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
