Albuquerque takes IMSA pole in Acura front row lockout at Long Beach

#10: Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06, Acura ARX-06, GTP: Ricky Taylor, Filipe Albuquerque

Filipe Albuquerque took pole in a front row lock out for Acura at the Grand Prix of Long Beach round of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

The Portuguese driver, behind the wheel of the #10 Wayne Taylor Acura ARX-06, set a 1:09.909, over half a second quicker than Tom Blomqvist in the other Acura, the #60 Meyer Shank Acura ARX-06. 

In third was Sebastien Bourdais in the #01 Cadillac V-Series.R, just under half a second off Blomqvist and a full second off Albuquerque.

Nick Yelloly managed to take fourth for BMW, the Brit driving the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8, just a few hundreths of a second away from Bourdais. In fifth was the sister BMW, driven by Long Beach debutant Augusto Farfus, with Nick Tandy in the first of the Porsches sixth, behind the wheel of the #6 Porsche 963.

Alex Sims and Felipe Nasr were seventh and eight for Cadillac and Porsche.

Marco Soreensen topped the GT field in the GTD-entered #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The Dane set a 1:17.811, just over a tenth quicker than the top GTD Pro car, the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 driven by Jack Hawksworth.

Second a third in GTD Pro were Ross Gunn, in the sister #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3, and Patrick Pilet’s #9 Pfaff Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Frankie Motecalvo took second in GTD, but sixth in the GT classes, in the #12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT33, while Madison Snow rounded out the top three, behind the wheel of the #1 Paul Miller BMW M4 GT3.

The race begins today, Saturday 15th April, at 2:15pm local time, or 10:15pm BST.
