On Monday, Katherine Legge revisited her old office by piloting an IndyCar at speed for the first time in nearly 10 years.

She drove her #44 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda around Texas Motor Speedway following a short delay to allow the track to dry from morning fog, and was quite pleased with the outing.

At 42 years old, Legge has been spending the past few years driving in IMSA and other endurance events.

The chance to get back behind the wheel of an open wheel car was an opportunity she had been waiting on for quite some time, and she was happy to feel some familiarity during the test.

“I’m going to try to approach it very smart, and get this rookie thing knocked out,” said Legge on social media while at the track.

“I have now been out in the car for a number of laps. I do not remember it being as fast as it is. As petrifying as it is. No, I’m kidding.

“It’s awesome. Really happy to be back. Really excited about the 500. And yeah, it feels like home. It’s awesome!”

Legge is set to drive in this year’s Indianapolis 500 as the fourth entry for RLL, which will be her third attempt at the famous race.

Her most recent IndyCar race was the 2013 running of the Indy 500, when she qualified in the 33rd and final position and ended the day in 26th.

The most recent Indy Lights champion Linus Lundqvist was also on track at Texas on Monday, driving Christian Lundgaard’s #45 entry.

It was the first time Lundqvist had driven an IndyCar since winning in the feeder category last year, and was the first time he was able to test out his skills on a high speed oval.

“Wow! My first time ever going this fast,” said an ecstatic Lundqvist. “What a feeling! It’s so difficult to describe. I’m not going to lie, the first couple laps it almost makes you sick with the speed and banking before the body and the head got used to it.

“So happy to be back in an IndyCar after a very long time out of it. It’s my first time driving an IndyCar on an oval, let alone a superspeedway. Super pumped, super excited!

“But now we’re flat out, back on the program trying a couple things. Hopefully we can help these guys out for the 500. Yeah, I’m just enjoying my time here.”

Lundqvist does not yet have a ride for any IndyCar races, and is looking for any opportunity he can get to show his skills in the top series.
