Jaguar’s Sam Bird will not take part in the race due to damage to his Jaguar.
After showing strong pace in practice sessions, the Briton will not take the start of the Cape Town E-Prix after a collision with Edoardo Mortara in Group Qualifying.
Bird has had a difficult run of luck of late, crashing into his teammate in Hyderabad leading to a double DNF for the team.
Taking to social media to confirm he would not take part, Bird blamed the lack of yellow flags indicating a stationary Mortara which he believes would have saved him from crashing.
“Due to the amount of accident damage in the crash in qualifying, I won’t be taking part in today’s race. This could have been avoided with yellow flags”
Bird becomes the fifth driver to pull out of the Cape Town E-Prix, with all the Mahindra-powered cars also not taking part due to safety issues with the M9Electro chassis.
