Vettel returning to Red Bull is ‘not out of the question’ – Marko

Red Bull adviser, Helmut Marko, has hinted that former Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel, would slot nicely into a leadership role at the Austrian team.

Vettel joined Red Bull’s junior side, Toro Rosso, in 2007, having scored a point on his debut with BW Sauber at the United States Grand Prix earlier that year.

The German claimed his first win at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix, before moving to Red Bull for the 2009 season during which he collected another four victories – including the team’s first-ever win in China.

Four consecutive championships and 38 race wins followed between 2010 and 2013, and Vettel departed after a difficult 2014 campaign in the first year of the hybrid era.

Following spells at Ferrari and Aston Martin, the now 53-time race winner called time on his career halfway through the 2022 season.

After the 35-year-old’s final outing at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend, Marko revealed that he had been speaking with his former driver about a potential management role in the future.

“It’s not out of the question he will come back in a top management position, the Austrian told Sky. “I’ll be 80 soon, that would be something!

“We had a discussion and I think if he could get a top management position, that might appeal to him. That’s what emerged in the talk.

“But now we’ll let him plant some trees for once and then we’ll see what happens. He would certainly have the potential and he would have that personality for it.

“We have heard the message. We have two teams. We are open. But Sebastian, it’s a serious difference – as top management you have to be there earlier, leave later and you only get a fraction of the money you are used to as a driver!”
