Australia replaces France on 2023 Formula 2 calendar

Formula 2’s 2023 calendar will feature 14 events, replicating this year’s number of rounds, with Australia replacing France.

Formula 2 expanded its schedule for 2022, and modified its weekend structure, in the aftermath of the unpopular approach in 2021.

As confirmed earlier in the year, Formula 2 will visit Australia for the first time, as one of the support categories to the Australian Grand Prix.

The round in effect replaces France, which has dropped from the schedule in the wake of the axing of Formula 1’s French Grand Prix.

Formula 3 has also announced its 2023 calendar, and will race in Melbourne and Monaco for the first time.

As per 2022 the season will begin in Bahrain, and take in Saudi Arabia, and conclude in Abu Dhabi, alongside Formula 1’s finale.

Formula 2 will also compete at Baku, Imola, Monaco, Barcelona, Spielberg, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort and Monza.

“The 2023 F2 calendar will have 14 rounds, the same amount as the current one,” explained Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel.

“In 2022, we’ve enjoyed more action than ever, with a total of 28 races, and we wanted to keep this for next season.

“The good thing is that there are a lot of tracks who would love to add F2 to their race weekend programme, but we always keep in mind the costs related to more racing.

“So, we have decided to limit the number of rounds to 14 again for 2023, and we will keep helping the teams to ensure their budgets remain at a proper level.

“As announced previously, we have added Melbourne to the calendar, a fantastic venue both for our teams and drivers, but also for everyone watching and enjoying F2. It will be very interesting to see our cars battling on those streets.”
