Verstappen explains decision to boycott Sky Sports
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Max Verstappen has explained why Red Bull opted to boycott Sky Sports in Mexico, following comments made about his 2021 Formula 1 title win.

News emerged on Sunday that the entire Red Bull F1 team would snub Sky Sports indefinitely, after reporter Ted Kravitz stated that Lewis Hamilton was “robbed” of the championship last year.

Kravitz’s comments came at the recent US Grand Prix weekend, but Verstappen says the decision was not taken on that instance alone.

“It had nothing to do with this weekend, but this year it’s been a constant kind of like digging, being disrespectful, especially one particular person,” Verstappen said.

“And at one point it is enough, I don’t accept it. You can’t live in the past, you just have to move on.

“At the moment social media is a very toxic place and if you are constantly being like that live on TV, you make it constantly worse, instead of trying to make it better in the world.

“You keep disrespecting me and at one point I’m not tolerating it anymore. So that’s why I decided to stop answering.”

F1’s popularity has rocketed in recent years, with Netflix’s Drive to Survive documentary often credited with igniting the interest of many people.

With more people now tuning into races, Verstappen says it has only boosted the number of individuals who are actively writing negative or degrading comments on social media

“I think it’s just the sport is more popular, so there are more people watching, so more people are writing,” he said.

“I think it’s just that. It’s not great that they are allowed to write these kinds of things.

“I hope we can kind of come up with an algorithm that stops people being keyboard warriors, because these kinds of people would never come up to you and say these kind of things in front of your face.

“It’s because they are sitting in front of their desk or whatever at home, being upset, being frustrated and they can write whatever they like because the platform allows them to.

“That can be really damaging and hurtful to some people and it’s not how it should be.”

Funny. No one would be saying lewis was robbed if it wasn’t true. Max knows himself he shouldn’t have won championship that season but ofc as any normal person would do, he won’t admit it.

If the situation was anyone else’s who won by cheating, the community would be slandering them too.

Verstapphen deserves the up most respect. He’s handled his success with dignity. It’s a shame some people live in the past. Journalists could be unbiased and report fairly. Unfortunately many do not. This reported should work for a rag. That’s all he deserves.

    Seriously…
Massi fucked up, and handed the championship to Max. Both drivers were deserving, but Lewis was ahead by a long shot in the final race. If Massi hadn’t have screwed it up, Lewis would have beaten Schumacher’s record. Max was given the championship by Massi. Everyone, except Verstappen supporters can see that. What is done is done.. move on, everyone.

I think the whole thing is funny. Yes, Lewis got screwed for the championship last season but I moved on from that. Then I just heard that Max team Red Bull spent almost over 2 million on the budget last season 2021. Red Bull spent 2 million extra just to compete with Lewis last season.

Um no. If RB had taken the tax rebate they were entitled to they spent a little over 460k £ not 2 million.
I get it, LH doesn’t have a rock ship under him and it’s exposing him.

…but Hamilton was robbed of that championship last year and Verstappen knows it as everyone else in the real world. He just doesn’t want to hear it.

Funny how max said he didn’t care what people thought didn’t care about booing etc etc and now he’s off sulking in a corner. But these things do hurt and it would also be nice for Max to comment on that too not just when it directly hurting him.

Most of the flack (but not downright abuse) for last year should be headed to Massi, who isn’t here. Everyone else (well… Latifi) did their job and if he had done his then there would be no complaints today – LH may or may not have won depending on the many options available.
Ted is generally a fair journalist and think some of his critics are unfounded.

He knows he had the championship given to him and it seems to be eating at him inside and every time he hears it,his stomach gets another knot in it. This is going to haunt him for the rest of his career. No matter how championships he wins,it’ll always be brought up on how he won his first.

Last year was an epic fight.
Both teams did some questionable maneuvers through the whole season; not just the last race. As for SKY; they forget that there are more teams on the grid; other than Mercedes.

It’s a shame people are so stuck in the past, yes Max was given the title on a plate and yes he had the best car this year. Whether that was due to over spend or they just have the best designer in F1, we will never know.
My only problem is winging Horner and his boss Marko who are the brunt of lots of things wrong with F1 and the FIA WHO DON’T seem to give a shit about true f1 fans.
Just as long as the bucks keep coming into the pot nothing will ever really change.
