Hyundai Motorsport have confirmed that Oliver Solberg will not be retained for the 2023 World Rally Championship season following a difficult campaign.

Throughout this season, the Swedish youngster has been sharing a third car with teammate Dani Sordo and finished fifth last time out in New Zealand.

However, the glimpses of speed that have been shown in not only New Zealand but on his way to his best result of fourth on Belgium, have not been enough to obtain a new deal from Hyundai. Out of the eight outings this season, Solberg has only managed to finish inside the top six on three occasions. Retirements in Monte Carlo, Croatia, and Finland, are coupled with a tenth and thirteenth in Kenya and Estonia respectively.

A statement from Hyundai reads: “Hyundai Motorsport and Oliver Solberg have announced that the contract between the two parties will not be renewed when it reaches its natural conclusion at the end of 2022. The decision to part ways has been taken following a challenging season for the team.”

The team have said that they will be looking for more experience when choosing the driver for the third car next year: “In an effort to deliver more consistency in its performances, Hyundai Motorsport has outlined its intentions to field an experienced trio of crews for the 2023 season.”
