Verstappen sets new Red Bull record at French GP
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

At this weekend’s French Grand Prix, which hosts the 12th round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Max Verstappen will set a new record for Red Bull Racing.

The Dutchman, at 24 years of age, becomes the most experienced driver with Red Bull as he takes part in his 130th grand prix with the team.

Verstappen surpasses Mark Webber for the accomplishment, who has held the record since his F1 retirement at the end of the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Red Bull joined F1 in 2005, and has just four drivers to take part in more than 100 races with it – Verstappen, Webber, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo.

Verstappen joined Red Bull shortly after the start of the 2016 season, and has enjoyed an abundance of success with the Milton Keynes-based squad.

He took his first race win at his debut for the team at the Spanish Grand Prix, and has since racked up 26 victories, 68 podiums and 16 pole positions during his term.

Last year, he became a Formula 1 World Champion for the first time, overtaking Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to secure the title.

Shortly after his championship success, Verstappen penned a new deal with Red Bull that runs through to the 2028 campaign.

Speaking ahead of his record-breaking weekend with Red Bull, Verstappen said: “I have been a part of the team for a long time. Hopefully we spend many more years together. I feel good within the team. Loyalty is a part of it.”

Verstappen currently heads the F1 Drivers’ Championship with a 38 point lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
