Michael Masi has formally left the FIA, five months after he was sacked as Formula 1’s Race Director, the governing body announced on Tuesday.

Masi was promoted to the role of Race Director on the eve of the 2019 season following the sudden death of Charlie Whiting.

Masi oversaw last year’s controversial season finale in Abu Dhabi in which Max Verstappen beat Lewis Hamilton to the world title.

Following a lengthy investigation Masi was removed from the role in February but it was outlined that he would be offered another position within the FIA.

But on Tuesday his departure was announced by the governing body.

‘The FIA confirms that Michael Masi has decided to leave the FIA and relocate to Australia to be closer to his family and take on new challenges’, read a statement.

‘He oversaw a three-year period as FIA Formula 1 Race Director and Safety Delegate following the sudden passing of Charlie Whiting in 2019, carrying out the numerous functions he was tasked with in a professional and dedicated manner.

‘The FIA thanks him for his commitment and wishes him the best for the future.’

Masi has not given any interview since last December’s title decider.

Good riddance. An absolute Calamity of errors ensued during his tenure.
The monumental one in the last race of 2021.
The Antipodeans ascribe a term, “A Joker” to describe an utter fool. Masi is “A Joker !”
He will always go down in Motor Racing as the guy who thought he was King.
Masi at a whim, could change every rule on the fly, as “King Masi”.
Now with his royal defrocking and debagging in the 5th year common room. What followed was a Public Boy School “Bogwashing” (purely ceremonial) by the new Oil Barons man in charge of the FIA.
Enjoy the Cricket in your provincial town in Australia. You will not be missed … well I’m assuming Horner still loves you ! Euwww ! The Horror !

Consider for just a moment the intense pressure Masi was under at the time. There was no time to consult the rule book or with anyone else. Critical decisions had to be made in a split second with both Christian and Toto screaming at him. His primary goal was to not have the race, and thus the championship, finish behind the safety car.
I’m not saying he handled it perfectly, but he did what he thought was best given the circumstances.
Your drivel has become quite old.

Just to elaborate a bit. What has grown old is the tone of your posts. You seem to have a fixation with how horrible everyone and everything is. I don’t recall ever reading anything from you that was even remotely positive, and that is what grows old. If you hate it so much, why do you continue to follow F1? Believe me, YOU would not be missed.

It was his job to make spli-second decissions. If he could not handle it, he should have stepped back. He should have ignored those calls from Toto and Christian and focus on the decissions he had to make at the time, rather than give explanations to Christian. He made multiple bad decissions and allowed others to walk all over him. He was weak! He restarted a race for Max and Lewis. He did not care about Carlos. Carlos did not deserve at a chance to win that race? Why leave lapped cars between Max and Carlos? Pathetic!
