Motorsport is a catch-all term, referring to all sporting events in which people compete using a motor-powered vehicle. This can include car races, motorcycle races, off-road races and stock car races.
The first ever motor race was held in the late 19th century, and was a massive success. The event inspired imitators to organize their own versions of car races and soon, the events became so popular that organizations formed around them.
Today, the most popular motorsport series are Formula 1 and NASCAR. These two organisations stage races in the USA (NASCAR) and globally (F1) which are watched and loved the world over. They have spawned some of the most popular events, racers, and cars the world has ever seen.
In 2022, motor racing remains a massively popular event in the world of sports. In this article, we are going to go through some of the most iconic held in the world of the sport, that all fans should see, at least once in their lifetime.
The Isle of Man TT
Any fan of motorcycle racing will be familiar with the Isle of Man TT. First held in the early 1900s, the Isle of Man TT is one of the riskiest, most difficult and most exciting races in the world of motorsports. It also holds the distinction of being the first motorcycle race ever held.
The Isle of Man TT might just be one of the most popular, if not the most popular motorcycle race. It draws huge crowds at the various online casinos like the ones found at Spinsify, which often times double as sports betting websites.
Part of the excitement for the Isle of Man TT comes from its legacy. However, a huge part comes from the fact that the race is truly one of the most exciting and dangerous races in the world of motor racing. Today, the average speeds on the 37 mile Isle of Man TT Course exceed 135 mph, with top speeds even closing in on 200 mph. It is definitely one of the events you must see, at least once.
The FIA WRC Rallye Monte Carlo
Taking place along the French Riviera in Monaco, the opening round of the FIA’s World Rally Championship each year, Rallye Monte Carlo is an event that every racing fan should experience in person at least once. The first reason to see this event with your own eyes is simply because Monte Carlo is a wonderful city, with a ton of fantastic attractions.
The second reason is Rallye Monte Carlo has everything that race enthusiasts want to see. The unpredictable weather conditions make the rally incredibly difficult, the cars are fast, the drivers are experienced, and the terrain is icy cold. Definitely an event that every fan of the sport needs to see.
The ADAC 24 Hours of Nürburgring
First held in 1970, the 24 Hours of Nürburgring is the newest event on this list. The 24 Hours race is among the harder tracks in the world today, earning the nickname “the Green Hell”, as it is raced on the legendary Nordschleife circuit which is set in a forest terrain. Apart from the excitement of the race itself, seeing the German forests is a magical experience in-and-on itself.
On top of that entries total over 200 and even though the track is nearly 13 miles long, it does resemble a high speed traffic jam at times. When you see that the classes of cars vary from almost production models to full blown GT3 Sportscars, the speed differential between the competitors is at times mind blowing. With weather being a constant factor (the track has its own micro climate), races can go through all four seasons in the 24 hours that it is run.
With fans making a weekend out of the race, camping around the track, a veritable party atmosphere is almost everywhere. Crowds of over 150,000 are usual and therefore this is one race all fans need to see at least once.
