Sebastian Vettel has praised Aston Martin’s result at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, as both of its cars finished inside the top ten.

Aston Martin entered the fourth round of the 2022 Formula 1 season as the only team yet to score points.

However, Vettel crossed the line in eighth place, while team-mate Lance Stroll collected an extra point for the squad in 10th.

Vettel says that the Silverstone-based squad managed the outing well, and expressed delight over being able to hold off Haas’ Kevin Magnussen.

“It was an unbelievable race for us. We capitalised on the conditions and after that we were trying to hang on as much as we could,” Vettel said.

“We did well, beating faster cars behind us. I think it was a very strong race. I wasn’t sure if we could really go on the same set of tyres, but I guess we had to.

“I had to manage it but at the same time push. Kevin behind had a much faster package but we were able to fend him off. Then he was running into trouble with his tyres.

“So I think we managed well, I think it’s good also to have both cars in the points. That’s really a good day for us.”

For both Vettel and Stroll, it marked the first time since last year’s Qatar Grand Prix that they had registered a top 10 finish.

Stroll added: “I feel good, I think it was a well-earned point. We had pressure from behind the whole race and it was very intense and tight from start to finish with the rain and everything.

“I’m really happy. We had good pace, so pleased with it. Both cars in the points, I think it’s a really positive weekend for the team.”
