Aston Martin has deferred its driver decision for this weekend’s Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix until Friday.

Sebastian Vettel has not yet supplied the negative Covid-19 test required in order to fly to Saudi Arabia from his residence in Switzerland.

Vettel tested positive prior to flying to Formula 1’s season-opening event in Bahrain and was replaced by Aston Martin’s reserve driver Nico Hulkenberg.

Hulkenberg out-qualified team-mate Lance Stroll before finishing last of the 17 runners in race trim.

Hulkenberg returned to the UK between events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, in order to carry out simulator work, but will be on the ground in Jeddah this weekend.

Aston Martin will delay its final decision until Friday “to provide Seb every opportunity to race” at the high-speed street track this weekend.
