Andretti confirms 17th Indianapolis 500 run

Andretti will be running the #98 entry again this year.

Marco Andretti has announced that he will be running this year’s Indianapolis 500 once again with Andretti Herta Autosport, marking his 17th time contesting the legendary race.

Andretti, who is the son of current team owner and CEO Michael Andretti, stepped away from full time IndyCar competition in 2021, but has committed to running the Indy 500 for at least the near future.

To allow this year’s run to go ahead, the Andretti team has expanded its partnership with KULR Technology Group, which has a stated goal of transferring aerospace knowledge to the race track.

“We’ve worked with KULR through Andretti Technologies for over a year now, including last year’s Indy 500 with Marco, and we are thrilled to now welcome them as a primary sponsor to our IndyCar program,” said Andretti Autosport CEO Michael Andretti.

“The development potential of KULR’s technology is exciting given their expertise in high-performance thermal management solutions and understanding of battery safety.  We look forward to this special event in May as Marco celebrates 250 career IndyCar starts.”

Andretti has never won the Indianapolis 500, despite starting on pole in 2020 and competing in every race since he began his IndyCar career in 2006.

The third-generation driver will hope to change that this year and give Andretti Autosport its sixth Indy 500 victory, in what will mark his 250th NTT IndyCar Series start.

Andretti will get behind the wheel for the first time of the season on April 20, just over a month before the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29.
