F1 announces race start times for 2022 season

Formula 1 has announced the official start times for each race that features on the 2022 calendar.

This year’s weekend schedules are different compared to previous seasons due to the sport’s move to a three-day format, bringing media duties forward to Friday morning instead of Thursday.

The decision was taken in light of the expanding calendar, as this year F1 is set to have a record-breaking 23 races in the season.

The second practice sessions will also take place later than normal this year. It should also be noted that changes will be made to certain weekend schedules, should F1 use the ‘Sprint’ format at events this season.

The 2022 Championship will get underway in Bahrain in just over one months’ time, with the now-traditional night race event commencing at 6pm local time.

All race starts will be on the hour, except Miami, which is making its first appearance on the schedule. The event, which is the second US race included on the calendar, will start at 3:30pm local time.

Australia and Japan, two events that have been absent from the calendar since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, return to the schedule this year with race start times at 15:00 and 14:00 local time respectively.
