Haas expects to fight for F1 points in 2022
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Haas Formula 1 team is hopeful it can return to competing for points in 2022, having spent the entirety of last year at the back of the field.

The American squad opted not to upgrade its car throughout the campaign, instead focusing its resources on the new 2022 regulations.

On Friday, Haas showcased the design and livery of its 2022 car but admitted that it will look slightly different for the pre-season shakedown in Barcelona.

“How different it looks in Barcelona, you will see in two weeks,” said Team Principal Guenther Steiner.

“It will be a little bit different obviously. We are not saying now it will be exactly the same because this is a stage of development.

“We don’t want to define it, but it is going in that direction. In the moment between the test and the race, we will not have a lot of changes planned for the moment.”

The car will be piloted by Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, who are both entering their second F1 season.

Having failed to score a point in 2021, the team is expecting that it will have a leap forward in pace this year and battle rival teams for positions inside the top ten.

“The expectation is just to be able to fight for points and fight with the other drivers who are in Formula 1,” Steiner added.

“With their rookie year we were always very open that the expectations were not high but that they had the opportunity to learn and to establish themselves in Formula 1.

“Now this year we have to prove that we are on the right track with the drivers.”
