Albuquerque takes Laguna Seca pole in Acura lockout

Filipe Albuquerque has taken pole position for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship round at Laguna Seca, leading a one-two for Acura ahead of Dane Cameron.

Albuquerque posted a 01:14:441 in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05, securing his maiden pole position in IMSA.

Cameron was just 0.023s behind in the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura, with the two Acuras well clear of their rivals.

Kevin Magnussen, third in the #01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-VR, was over half a second off pole with Harry Tincknell fourth in the #55 Mazda RT24-P.

The Mazda was later moved to the back of the class after the car was founded to be exceeding maximum camber in qualifying.

Pipo Derani was subsequently moved to fourth for Whelen Engineering, with Tristan Vautier now fifth.

Unleashed Keating dominates LMP2

Ben Keating has taken LMP2 pole in dominant fashion at the Californian circuit.

The Texan posted a 01:17:227 in the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson, which was 2.6s of the #18 Era Motorsport ORECA of Dwight Merriman.

Third went to WIN Autosport’s Steven Thomas, with John Farano rounding out the class in the #8 Tower Motorsport ORECA.

Taylor beats Milner in Corvette one-two

Jordan Taylor has taken pole in GTLM, beating out team-mate Tommy Milner by 0.116s.

Taylor posted a 01:21:151 in the #3 Corvette C8.R, with Milner second. It was Taylor’s fourth consecutive pole position in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

Corvette Racing chases its first win at the Monterey venue in over half a decade, as it hasn’t won at Laguna Seca since 2014.

Cooper MacNeil, driving the #70 WeatherTech Racing Porsche 911 RSR-1, qualifiied third.

Hindman tops tight GTD session

Trent Hindman has taken GTD pole for Wright Motorsports in a hotly contested session.

Several drivers looked to be a candidate for pole, but it was Hindman who won out in the #16 Porsche 911 GT3 R by posting a 01:24:505

He was just 0.063s faster than the #96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Robby Foley, with Roman de Angelis third in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

Madison Snow ultimately took fourth in the #1 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, with the top five rounded out by Richard Heistand’s #39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo.

The battle for GTD points was won by Ross Gunn in the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin, who went fastest with a 01:23:805.
