Götz wins at Lausitzring after mechanical mishap costs Van der Linde victory
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Maximilian Götz has taken his first race victory in the DTM at the Lausitzring, taking advantage of mechanical troubles for Kelvin van der Linde to take victory.

Van der Linde has captured the lead of the race from Liam Lawson after the pitstops, with Lawson also dropping to third behind Götz.

The South African then looked to be heading towards a certain race victory when his car unexpectedly slowed coming out of turn one, allowing both Götz and Lawson to slip by.

Van der Linde then fought out a fiery battle with title rival Lawson to try and take second place, but Lawson kept his rival at bay while Götz went on to win, some five seconds clear of the battling pair.

Lawson finished second ahead of Van der Linde, with polesitter Philip Ellis coming home in fourth place.

Sheldon van der Linde finished fifth, while another strong driver from Marco Wittmann saw the double champion charge through the midfield to finish in sixth, ahead of Daniel Juncadella, Mike Rockenfeller and Lucas Auer.

Nico Müller came through from the rear of the field to score the final point in tenth, ahead of Alex Albon and Arjun Maini in eleventh and twelfth respectively.

Timo Glock finished thirteenth ahead of Vincent Abril and Sophia Floersch, with Esmee Hawkey sixteenth thanks to a forceful pass on Dev Gore.

Maximilian Buhk finished last, thanks to a drivethrough penalty that the Mücke Motorsport driver received for a start infringement.

The race had one retirement: Esteban Muth failed to finish as the result of a rear right puncture to his T3 Motorsport Lamborghini.
