Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has emphasised his belief that the operation can eventually recapture the form it displayed during its first three years in Formula 1.

Haas joined Formula 1 in 2016, scoring points in its first two events, and went on to score back-to-back eighth place finishes in the standings.

Haas’ standout campaign came in 2018, when it classified fifth overall, but it has since slumped down the order amid recalcitrant machinery.

The team outlined prior to 2021 that it was focusing its resources on its package for 2022, when new regulations will be introduced, as well as bedding in rookies Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.

Haas currently brings up the rear of the 10-team championship and has spent the majority of the campaign slowest in both qualifying and race trim.

Steiner, though, is optimistic that Haas – which evaluated its participation in Formula 1 amid the pandemic and its impact – can rediscover its prior form.

“I think we are in a good position,” Steiner said. “You are never in a comfortable position, you always want more as the day you don’t want more you should change job – especially in F1.

“I think we are in a good place, we always can do better, the team is now back where we were in ‘16/’17/’18.

“Technical wise, with Simone Resta leading the technical group, we have a leader now again, and I see good progress there.

“The race team was always pretty good, we have never seen nay big weaknesses, always we can get better obviously.

“I’m pretty hopeful and confident that we will get back to our old form.”
